Thank You for My Horse!

For me Thanksgiving is more than eating turkey and Black Friday shopping.  It is a time for me to reflect on all the things that bring me happiness and gratitude. I am thankful to God for giving me my great family and friends, to my husband for being supportive of my endeavors, my daughter who brings me great joy and both my pets including my cat and horse.  This brings me to my topic for this week's blog, why are we thankful for our horse/horses and/or for whom are we thankful? No Stirrup November

Every fall I try to include “No Stirrup November” on my riding calendar.  I have found riding without stirrups has helped me with my balance and to develop a better seat. Please remember I AM NOT A TRAINER and am just sharing my experience, as each and every horse and rider combination is different.  I start by riding for 10 minutes with my stirrups crossed in front of my saddle after each ride.  Then I gradually add a few minutes each time I ride to reach my goal of riding 30 minutes without my stirrups.  I also plan on riding without stirrups at least once a week for the remainder of the year. Mon Cheval Dressage Schooling Show at Cornerstone Horse Complex 11/3/13

Mon Cheval Training Center held a Dressage Schooling Show at Cornerstone Horse Complex on November 3, 2013.  The show featured Dressage, Western Dressage, English Suitability and English Equitation.  Mindy Price, the trainer for Mon Cheval Training Center, was very pleased with the level of competition.  Robert Dunn was the judge and did an excellent job. Meet our Trainer Angela Porter

Angela Porter of Steel Crest Stables offers horse training and riding lessons to both students and horses. She has been training horses for 20 years and focuses on Saddlebreds and also welcomes Morgans and Arabs. While English Pleasure is her specialty she offers expertise in hunt seat and western pleasure. She is accepting new clients and offers lesson horses if needed. Porter was an assistant trainer at the highly regarded Devore Stables in KY and is now back to her home state of Minnesota at Cornerstone Horse Complex.
